Having long, mermaid- like hair is all the rage these days. Everyone wants to have those effortless long curls which actually do take a lot of effort! I was one of the people who desperately wanted to grow her hair, mainly because I just like the idea of long locks, especially since I've had a bob for as long as I could remember.
Now, like most people, I hit up google and looking for ways which would make my hair grow longer, faster since it has really slow growth naturally. At that time, my hair was falling out a lot and because of that, it became quite thin and weak. I was really desperate for a solution! I came across a lot of things, but the thing that was EVERYWHERE was Biotin. It was supposedly a magical vitamin that you just pop down your throat everyday and it would give you long, luscious locks in no time. Keep on reading to find out if it really worked for me or not.
I took Biotin for a good two years and I can honestly say it has improved the rate at which my hair grows. It grew more in these two years than it during any other period of my life. It was also much stronger and thicker than it was ever before. Obviously, my hair didn't just sprout out overnight, but there was noticeable growth. I didn't get any hair cut during that period, however I did trim my hair a bit every time I noticed split ends.
Biotin does not have any known side effects. It is a water soluble vitamin, so you have to make sure to drink lots of water if you really want it work. Of course, that also means you'll have to pee a LOT, but hey, you gotta make some compromises somewhere.
There is one thing that you have to keep in mind with Biotin. It is notorious for breaking you out! I have acne prone skin, so it did break me out too. I had to go to my dermatologist who put me on medication for a while. My skin cleared up after that. I still took Biotin then, but I didn't get any acne again once my skin cleared up.
I started out taking 600 mcg of Biotin and worked my way up to 5000 mcg. The key with Biotin is to start with a small dosage and slowly increase your intake so that you minimize your chances of getting acne. It is also absolutely essential that you keep on drinking a lot of water.
Biotin did help in increasing my hair growth. Not only that, but it also made my brittle nails stronger too! I would recommend in to people who are really serious about growing out their hair and are not unfazed by the fact that it could give you acne.
I only stopped taking Biotin recently as fasting time is coming up and I know I won't be able to regulate my intake of water. However, I will start taking it again as soon as I'm done fasting.
I really hope this article helped you have some sort of an idea of what Biotin is and how it affects you.
