REVIEW: Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Balm

As we all know, chapped lips are a big no-no. They feel extremely bad and look even worse! I had the worst chapped lips this winter and everything I tried just didn’t seem to work. I finally spotted the Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm in one of my favorite online shopping stores and immediately grabbed it.

MAYBELLINE BABY LIPS (FROM LEFT TO RIGHT): QUENCHED, PEACH KISS

WHAT IT CLAIMS: No more basic lip balm. Our exclusive lip balm moisturizes lips for a full eight hours. Lips are renewed in one week.

WHAT I THINK ABOUT IT: I was really excited to get this because I had read so many great reviews on it. I got it in two colors, one in Quenched which is a transparent color with SPF 20 in it and one in Peach Kiss, which is a really sheer peachy nude shade with a hint of shimmer in it.

The packaging is so cute! It reminds me of the Lip Smackers that I used to play around with when I was younger. Also, the twist- up tube is a BIG bonus for those who don’t like sticking their fingers into pots or jars.

Quenched has such an amazing scent! I can’t quite explain the actual smell, but let me tell you, it reminds me of Sprite. Being the foodaholic that I am, I could probably eat it. It goes on transparent on my lips and gives them a nice shine. Peach Kiss smells like (surprise, surprise) peaches. This is really sheer and gives the lips a bit of a nude color. The shimmer in it might be a nice addition to those who like it, but I personally don’t like my lips to look like a glitter bomb, so I don’t tend to use a whole lot of shimmery lipsticks and glosses.

On to the application! I felt like these lip balms are not as moisturizing as they claim to be, although they did glide on quite smoothly. My lips were horribly chapped when I used these and they didn’t really make THAT much of a difference. Also, the shimmer in Peach Kiss felt gritty and irritated my chapped lips, however it felt nice and smooth when I applied it to my lips when they were in normal condition. I also felt like I went through the whole tube pretty quickly. Normally, my lip balms last me a year or at least more than half a year. I’ve only had these for a couple of months and I’m already to the end!

However, I also used these when my lips were in normal condition, just to keep my lips hydrated. The Baby Lips actually felt nice on my lips then! I’ve also used Quenched under mattifying lipsticks as they tend to be a bit drying and this baby didn’t let me down! I was pleasantly surprised as they actually made my matte lipsticks look better.

They also come in a nice color selection which is suitable for everyday wear and they are pretty inexpensive. These lip balms last for about 4 hours after which they need to be reapplied.

PRICE AND AMOUNT: You get 4.4 g/ 0.15 oz in a single tube of product. I don’t really think this is a whole lot, especially since I reapply about 5-6 times in a day because I lick my lips WAY too much and it causes my lip products to fade faster. I bought this for 745 PKR, although now they’re for 350 PKR (weird). It’s priced between $3-5 in the US.

AVAILABILITY: They are available at www.just4girls.pk. And that is where I got them from. I haven’t seen them in any of the stores here in Pakistan, though. For viewers in the US, you can pick them up from Target, Ulta, CVS etc.

SWATCHES (FROM LEFT TO RIGHT): PEACH KISS, QUENCHED

YOU’LL LOVE THEM BECAUSE:

- They have such an amazing scent!
- They give the lips a bit of color
- There is quite a nice selection of colors
- The twist up packaging is nice and makes application easier. Not to mention it is sanitary
- They come with a gorgeous price tag
- Quenched has SPF 20 in it (bye bye, dark lips)

YOU’LL HATE THEM BECAUSE:

- They do not last up to eight hours
- They aren’t very moisturizing, as compared to other lip balms
- The shimmer in Peach Kiss might feel a bit gritty
 - They run out so quickly

OVERALL VIEW: They’re not something that would make me crazy happy, but I’ll repurchase them because they look and feel good under my drying lipsticks. I’m definitely on the lookout for my HG lip balm, though. Does anyone have any suggestions? x

  1. Try lush honey trap lip balm. It has worked wonders for my chapped/ bleeding lips. It has a strong mint/white chic/ honey scent which done people don't like, aside from that, it's HG stuff in my opinion. Oh lush! When will you launch in Pakistan?
